One Hadith

It is narrated that Al-Shibli [may Allah have mercy on him] served 400 teachers
and said: "I read 4000 ahadith [traditions] and selected one of them for practice,
because having pondered over it and considered it seriously, I realized that here lay my salvation,
since it embodied the knowledge of the predecessors and those who followed them.
And that tradition was, that the Messenger of Allah [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him]
said to one of his Companions:

"Work for your world according to you position in it.
Work for your Hereafter according to the length of your remaining in it.
Work for Allah the Exalted according to your need of Him and
work of the Fire according to your endurance in it."

-Imam Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali [may Allah be pleased with him]

The Rear Provider

Do not seek sustenance from people. God is the real Provider.

If He wills a certain person to be the means of your livelihood,

do not consider that person to be in control of your destiny.

Have faith and be certain in the knowledge that

your daily bread does not depend upon any mortal,

but upon God who created all.

Quran: Man's Selfishness

Man is by nature unstable; when misfortune touches him he panics
and when good things come his way, he prevents them form reaching others. [Quran: 70: 19-21]

Men's personalities have been permeated with greed [or selfishness]. [Quran: 4: 128]

The successful are those who can be saved from their own selfishness. [Quran: 59:9, 64: 16]

Say [O Muhammad! to these pagans]: If you were to possess the entire treasures of my Lord's mercy and munificence,
you would still sit over them out of fear of spending [on others] and man is, indeed niggardly! [Quran: 17:100]

Two Things: Nothing is Better Than These Two

There are two things that no believer has been given anything better:
a good opinion of God and a good opinion of the servants of God.
