Be Contended with Allah's Management

It is related of Umar ibn al-Khattab [may God be pleased with him] that he said:

"I do not care is what condition I find myself when morning comes,
whether it is disagreeable to me or to my liking,
because I do not know in which of them lies the good."

He could say this because he was well contended with Allah's management,
and satisfied with His choice and His judgment.

Allah [Exalted is He] has said:

....It may happen that you hate a thing which is good for you,
and may happen that you love a thing which is bad for you.
Allah knows, and you know not. [Quran- 2:216]

At least One of the Three is Bound to Apply

Three things inevitably demand the attention of every believer under all circumstances:

A commandment to be obeyed,
a prohibition to be respected,
and a divine decree to be accepted with good grace.

In even the most trivial situation, at least one of the three is bound to apply.

The believer must therefore keep his mind and feelings focused upon them,
talk to himself about them, and practice the physical self-discipline they require of him at all times.

Allah will make a way out for you if....

He who is dutiful toward Allah,
He prepares a way out for him,
and provides for him from sources he could never imagine.
[Quran 65:2,3]

If anyone puts his trust in Allah,
He will suffice him.
[Quran 65:3]

Let there be only One...

Let there be only one of whom you ask,
one giver, one object of your hope and fear,
one being and one aspiration,
namely your Lord [Almighty and Glorious is He].

The forelocks of kings are in His hand,
as are human hearts, the prices of our bodies.

People's property belongs to Him,
for they are His agents and trustees.
When they give you something,
the movement of their hands
is by His permission, His command, His motivation,
and likewise when they hold back from making a gift.

Be blind to all besides Him

Be blind to all besides Him [Allah -Almighty and Glorious is He],
and see nothing but Him as having any existence or power or harm or benefit,
to give or to withhold.

In times of suffering and affliction,
look upon created things and worldly means as His whip with which He lashes you,
and view them in times of blessing and benefaction
as His hand with which He feeds you tasty morsels.

What Blocks You from Allah's Grace and Favor

Nothing blocks you from receiving of Allah's grace and favor
except your reliance upon
people and connections, on good turns and handouts.
......
As long as you continue to depend on fellow creatures,
hoping for their gifts and favors, going door to door with your requests,
you are associating His creation with Allah.

Real Faith

Real faith is having complete trust in God.
It is the belief in the wisdom which comes from the Unseen.
Such certainty can only be attained through the knowledge
that emerges with divine help.

Syed Ali Bin Usman Al-Hujwiri, "The Kashf al-Mahjub"

Purify Your Hearts

When you purify your hearts just as you purify your raiment, union with God will follow.

You cannot become a Sufi by merely wearing coarse woolen shirts and following strict ritual,
pretending to be pious while inside your hearts you bear malice and avarice.

A real Sufi has attained a state of perfection on the inside. If you sincerely seek union with God,
then seek Him inside your hearts and leave the world alone.

Quran: The Life to Come

'Those who are concerned only with this fleeting life,
will soon suffer in the manner We choose.
We determine people's fate as We please.
We have prepared hell for those in love with this fleeting life;
they will burn within its flames, despised and helpless.'
But the true believers who are concerned with the life to come,
and strive for it with all their souls, will have their efforts rewarded by God.

-Qur'an, Al-Isra, Surah 17:18-19

The Dearest Words to the Merciful

The words, "Praise be to Allah," are the easiest to recite,
yet heaviest in balance and dearest to the Merciful.

Surrender Yourselves before His Will

In separation from God you have become arrogant;
pay heed before His scourge strikes you down.
Do not exult because of your good fortune.
Over and again God admonishes you with the examples of the transgressors before you.
If you really want to enjoy the limitless bounty of Allah,
surrender yourselves before His will
and endure all afflictions with fortitude.
